2010 Player Awards

Each week, the Valley Baseball League identifies Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. In addition, players can be named to the division's All Star Team at mid-season and the Valley League's All-League team at the end of the season. Also local media may make Athlete of the Week awards.

2010 Valley Baseball League South All-Star Team

New Market, VA—July 7, 2010

The New Market Rebels are proud to announce that right fielder Jordan Owen (University of Tennessee-Martin) and pitchers William Falasco (University of Richmond), Jake Guengerich (Florida Southern), and Cameron Ward (Limestone College) have been named to the Valley Baseball League’s “South” All-Star team.

Owens’ .345 average leads the Rebels and ranks 7th in the league.

Falasco has started 5 games for New Market and held his opponents to a .239 batting average, good for 9th in the league. Guengerich has both started and relieved, and sports a stellar 1.12 earned run average. Ward has made one start and relieved 10 times for the Rebels, working to an outstanding 1.93 earned run average. All three hurlers are right-handed.

The South squad is comprised of players from Covington, Harrisonburg, Rockbridge, Staunton, and Waynesboro in addition to New Market. Harrisonburg’s Bob Wease will serve as head coach.
The Valley League’s All-Star game will take place this Sunday, July 11th at Harrisonburg’s Veterans Memorial Park at 7:30. A 60 yard dash contest as well as a Home Run Derby will take place before the game begins. For complete information concerning the All-Star festivities see the the Valley Baseball League’s website.

2010 Mid-Atlantic Classic

New Market, VA—July 13, 2010

New Market Rebel relievers Cam Ward and Jake Guengerich each turned in a scoreless inning for the South squad in its 9-2 loss to the North team in the Valley Baseball League All-Star Game held Sundy night in Harrisonburg. Right-fielder Jordan Owen was 0-1 with a walk. Billy Falasco did not pitch, having tossed 7 solid innings on Saturday night in the Rebels' 2-1 loss to Woodstock.

Guengerich and Owen will represent New Market when the Valley League All-Stars take on an all-star team in the Mid-Atlantic Classic from the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League at Shirley Povich Field tomorrow evening at 7:30 in Bethesda, MD.
