Each week, the Valley League identifies player of the week awards in each division. In addition, players can be named to the division's All Star Team and the Valley League's All-League team. We also list players who have received awards from other organizations.

August 8, 2006 - The Valley League has announced the 2006 All-League team with 16 players honored. Waynesboro led the all-league selections with four, followed by the New Market Rebels with three. New Market had the Valley League’s best regular season record at 32-10. These were the Rebels honored:

Outfield
Jon Geiger, New Market
The Columbus State outfielder is from Lilburn, GA. Geiger hit .320 with 26 runs scored, seven doubles, a .453 slugging percentage, and finished second in the league with 22 stolen bases. |

Designated Hitter
Gerard Haran, New Market
The College of New Jersey designated hitter is from Matawan, NJ. Haran was third with a .526 slugging percentage, second with 30 runs scored, second with 12 doubles, second with seven home runs, and tied for third with 72 total bases. |

Relief Pitcher
Brandon (Cotton) Dickson, New Market
The Tusculum closer is from Marburg, AL. Dickson led the league with 13 saves, six more than the next closest total. He finished 4-0 with a 0.31 ERA and 32 strikeouts with just four walks in 28.2 innings. |

July 29, 2006 - The Northern Virginia Daily has announced it's choices for the all-Valley League Team based on regular season performance. The members were chosen from the four area teams: Front Royal, New Market, Winchester, and Woodstock. New Market Rebels personnel captured seven of the 15 positions selected by the Northern Virginia Daily:

Second Base
Chris Beck, New Market
One of the best defensive players in the league, Beck alternated between second base and shortstop. The North Carolina-Pembroke product committed just five errors, batted .281 and drove in 15 runs. |

Catcher
Gerard Haran, New Market
Haran, from the College of New Jersey, was the most feared batter in the league. He launched seven home runs — tied for second-most in the league — including three against Luray on July 15. He also smacked 12 doubles and drove in 23 runs. |

Outfield
Jon Geiger, New Market
The Columbus State product led the Rebels with a .320 batting average and was second in the league, behind teammate Pete Antoske, with 23 stolen bases. |

Starting Pitcher
Frank Gailey, New Market
The right-hander from West Chester went undefeated in 1-1/2 regular seasons in the Valley League. He went 2-0 last summer before exiting with an elbow injury. He was even stronger this year, posting a 5-0 record and a 1.99 earned-run average. |

Relief Pitcher
Brandon (Cotton) Dickson, New Market
Mr. Dependable established a franchise record with 13 saves. Even when he didn't get the save, the Tusculum right-hander helped the Rebels win, compiling a 4-0 record. In 28-2/3 innings, he struck out 32, walked four, and sported a minuscule 0.34 earned-run average. |

Coach of the Year
Blaine Brown, New Market
In his third season at the helm, Brown guided the Rebels to a franchise-record 32 wins and the North Division championship. Brown's teams have routinely consisted of small-school players eager to prove themselves against Division 1 talent. Brown guided that enthusiasm to the Valley League championship series last season, where the Rebels lost to Covington in four games. |

July 18, 2006 - closer Brandon (Cotton) Dickson (Marburg, Ala.) won Northern Division Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. He made three appearances, going 1-0 with one save and not allowing a hit in four and one-third innings. He walked two and struck out five. For the season, the Tusculum College senior is 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA in 24 and two-thirds innings. He has struck out 28, walked just four, and opponents are batting .155 against him. He leads the league by a wide margin with 11 saves. |

June 27, 2006 - John Ducey (Armstrong Atlantic State) is the Northern Division Pitcher of the Week. The senior right-hander limited Waynesboro to no runs on three hits during a 7-0 shutout during the battle of division leaders on Wednesday. He struck out three, walked two, and limited the Generals to a .143 team batting average. He ranked first for the week in ERA and fourth in opponent batting average and hits allowed. For the season, Ducey is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 24 innings pitched. |

June 13, 2006 - Tusculum’s Brandon (Cotton) Dickson (Marburg, Ala.) garnered Northern Division Pitcher of the Week honors after recording five saves as New Market jumped out to a 7-2 record, the best in the league, to start the season. After an opening day loss, Dickson saved five wins over the next six games, allowing no runs and just two hits in five and two-thirds innings. The senior has struck out eight and limited opponents to a .100 batting average. Last season, the league leader for the entire year had 11 saves and just six pitchers reached five for the season. |
2006 Northern Division All Star Team:
July 11, 2006 - Valley League All Star Game - Coach Blaine Brown was the Northern Division coach this year, an honor determined by the team with the best record at the cut-off date. In addition, there were six New Market Rebels players on the Northern Division All Star Team: Pete Antoske, Mark Brackman, Brandon (Cotton) Dickson, John Ducey, Gerard Haran, and Bryan Shaughnessy.
Other Awards:
June 25, 2006 - New Market Rebel, Gerard Haran, a junior from the College of New Jersey Lions, was named the 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association - Rawlings NCAA Division III National Player of the Year. The 6' 1", 215 lb. catcher hails from Matawan, New Jersey. This is the first award of this type ever received for his school. Haran was also named the Position Player of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America. The New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Year batted .429 with 64 runs scored, 21 doubles, 14 home runs, 64 runs driven in, an .859 slugging percentage, and a .559 on-base percentage. |
