2009 Player Awards

Each week, the Valley Baseball League identifies Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. In addition, players can be named to the division's All Star Team at mid-season and the Valley League's All-Valley team at the end of the season. Also local media may make Athlete of the Week awards.

Valley Baseball League All-Valley Teams:

January 21, 2010 - The Valley League has announced the 2009 Valley Baseball All-Valley teams with 33 players honored in the three divisions. The New Market Rebels led the Central division with four players on the Central division All-Valley team. These were the Rebels honored:

	3rd base: Seth Kivett
	SS: Zack Messer
	OF: Kenny Mickens
	Relief Pitcher: Brian Burgess

Player/Pitcher of the Week:

	July 27, 2009 Pitcher of the Week - Garrett Baker: Baker helped the Rebels to an important Central Division victory on July 24 over Harrisonburg by throwing the first 7.0 innings of a 4-0 win over the Turks. Baker allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight.
	July 20, 2009 Player of the Week - Kevin Rufus: Rufus hit .471 last week with eight hits in 17 at-bats and had a double and a home run. In addition, he drove in three runs, had a slugging percentage of .706 and had 12 total bases.
	July 12, 2009 Player of the Week - Sanchez Gartman: Gartman pounded out eight hits in 20 at-bats, including a VBL-best three home runs, as the Rebels won four of six games last week. In addition to his 1.000 slugging percentage, Gartman added a double and a triple to his extra base total.
	July 12, 2009 Pitcher of the Week - Steven Thiele: Thiele picked up his first two wins of the season this past week, tossing 2.0 innings of relief in an 8-3 win over Luray on July 7 before tossing the first 7.0 innings in an 8-4 victory over Woodstock on July 11. For the week, Thiele struck out six, walked two and did not allow an earned run.
	June 29, 2009 Player of the Week - Kenny Mickens: Mickens led the league in hitting this past week, going 14 for 26 (.538) and driving in five runs. In addition, he had a co-league-high four doubles.

2009 Valley Baseball League Mid-Atlantic Classic Roster

July 8, 2009 - Winchester, VA - The Valley Baseball League announced its roster for the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Summer Classic All-Star game to be played July 15 in Waldorf, Maryland. The Valley Baseball League team will play the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League team; each team's roster has been selected from their respective All-Star teams. The Valley Baseball League roster includes four New Market Rebels: Brian Burgess (pitcher), Richard Gonzalez (2nd Base/Short Stop), Zach Helgeson (1st base), and Kenny Mickens (outfield).

2009 Valley Baseball League South All-Star Team

July 5, 2009 - The Valley Baseball League announced the All-Star Team members including five New Market Rebels on the South Team plus one alternate pitcher: Eric Alessio (pitcher), Brian Burgess (pitcher), Richard Gonzalez (2nd base), Zach Helgeson (1st base), Kenny Mickens (outfield), plus alternate pitcher Garrett Baker.

June 12, 2009 - Kevin Rufus was named Athlete of the Week by the Shenandoah Valley Herald.
